Come Close

“Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you.” — James 4:8

There are seasons when we believe we need to get ourselves together before we come close to God. We think we need to heal first, understand first, forgive first, or somehow become worthy of His presence.

But God’s invitation has never been, “Fix yourself and then come.”

His invitation is simply:

Come close.

Maybe you have been carrying something for a long time. A wound you haven't known how to heal. A memory you wish you could forget. A disappointment you still don't understand. Maybe life has left you wondering where God was in the moments that hurt the most.

You do not have to have the answers before you come to Him.

You don't even have to know what healing will look like yet.

You simply have to come.

Scripture does not say, “Draw near to God once you have figured everything out.” It says, “Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you.”

What a beautiful promise.

The God who created you is not standing at a distance waiting for you to find your way back to Him. He is inviting you nearer—to bring the questions, the wounds, the parts of your story you don't understand, and even the places you have tried so hard to hide.

Because sometimes healing doesn't begin with an answer.

Sometimes healing begins with nearness.

A Moment to Reflect

Maybe today God isn't asking you to understand everything that has happened.

Maybe He isn't asking you to figure out how every broken place will be restored.

Maybe He's simply asking you to come a little closer.

What have you been carrying that you need to place in His hands today?

You don't need perfect words. You don't need a beautiful prayer. You can simply tell Him:

“Father, here I am.”

A Prayer

Father,

Thank You that I don't have to earn my way into Your presence. Thank You that You welcome me exactly where I am.

Today, I bring You the places in me that still hurt, the questions I cannot answer, and the things I have carried for far too long.

Teach me to trust Your heart even when I cannot understand Your ways. Help me stop running from the places that hurt and instead bring them into the safety of Your presence.

Draw me closer to You.

And as I come close, remind me that I am seen, I am known, and I am deeply loved.

Let healing begin here—not because I have figured everything out, but because I am near to You.

In Jesus' name,
Amen.

This week, don't pressure yourself to have all the answers. Just come close. He is already there.
